One of the first things you’ll notice if you wear a Rolex Oysterquartz is how loud it ticks – particularly compared to its mechanical movement powered siblings. This is of course because of the quartz caliber working away within the case.

Movement: At the heart, the 17013 houses a quartz Caliber 5035 movement, an unusual choice for Rolex, which reflects the brand’s response to the quartz crisis during the era of its creation. This movement is noted for its precision and lower maintenance compared to mechanical movements.These in-house quartz calibers were hailed as modern marvels when launched and they offered superior accuracy to any of Rolex’s mechanical movements at the time. Additionally, both calibers offered quickset calendar functionality, as well as hacking seconds. The movement is adjustable and, after initial production, achieved chronometer certification.
